Concerns for my ImagineIT
One of my major concerns is how to make the neuroscience content relevant to students' lives when we are discussing things at the molecular and cellular level. I have framed the entire class around the idea of "perspective" and I've gotten them to deeply invest in the intriguing nature of this, but now we are dealing with things that are so small that there is no interaction with this material in their daily lives. I am struggling to make this part of the course come alive in a way that connects with students on a personal and individual level. The book also talks about the importance of having an understanding of students outside of the classroom. I struggle with this as well as a mom of a two year old who consumes most of my time. How do you make time to go to school events, invite students in for lunch during a very busy planning day, get to know their families, etc.? This idea of connection is very important to me and I feel like I've lost some ground as the year has progressed.
